Næsten 900 atleter deltager i den 4. udgave af Maccabiaden i Israel i 1953, hvor 21 lande deltager. Danmark præsterer denne gang at vinde syv medaljer. Sølv i 100 fri og bronze i brystsvømning til svømmeren Paula Chalupsky. Guld i brydning til Benny Sårde (fjervægt), mens Julius Tschertok vinder sølv(weltervægt). Herman Leisin får to gange bronze.
